GeoVelo’s Creates Business & Market Intelligence Products
Know Your Market: GIS offers penetrating insights and helps you better understand your market areas and customer demographics. It will grow your business.

Business Intelligence Maps: GeoVelo provides custom business intelligence services to businesses of every size. A business’s internal data is an invaluable asset, and it is costly to collect and maintain. By taking a spatial approach, GeoVelo helps our clients look at their data in ways their competition isn’t. Once business leaders recognize that there is unexploited geospatial intelligence in their data, they begin to move ahead of the competition. Our work includes gathering demographics, market numbers, and geographic markers and blending those data sets in ways where patterns become apparent. You never really understand your market until you’ve seen it in a spatial context.
GeoVelo Offers Legal Team & Trial Support Services
Persuasive Demonstratives: Do the best for your clients not just by telling judges or juries what happened but by showing them. Collaborate with GeoVelo to create exhibits, models, videos, and animations that take people to the scene of the crime or another legal proceeding.

Geospatial Forensics: The critical element of a legal case often involves where an event took place. GeoVelo works with teams of attorneys to help them make their cases stand up in court. Our process requires applying the geosciences in a way that both the court and the opposing counsel will accept as solid and admissible evidentiary work. GeoVelo regularly helps lawyers make their case, and sometimes we show them that they may not have a case, which can help their client avoid expensive and prolonged litigation. Once, we even helped to set an innocent man free.

Crime Scene Models: GeoVelo is the only mid-Missouri firm offering 3-D crime scene models. We start by mapping the events and items present at the scene and then build a spatially accurate 3-D model in the same coordinate geometry.
Trial Graphics: Juries want engaging graphics. Television crime shows have set expectations high. GeoVelo takes each case’s complex geospatial issues and presents them in ways juries innately understand. We can use our HP Z-5200 Large Format Plotter to print large-scale graphics for use in the courtroom. Remember, you’ll never get a PowerPoint into a jury room during deliberations. But when done correctly, you can often get large posters, maps, and photographs introduced into the jury room.
Video and Animation: It may sound like we’re spreading ourselves too thin by offering video presentations and map and crime scene animation, but they are natural extensions of the platforms we already use. Help tell your client’s story by working with GeoVelo to craft recreations of the places and spaces that impact the case.
GeoVelo Supports Nonprofits

Community Betterment: GeoVelo works for a number of nonprofit organizations who are doing their best to make this world a better place. Every little bit helps, so we offer nonprofits a discounted hourly rate. We’ve been known to make the maps used for their board meetings, map study areas, and websites to tell the nonprofits’ essential stories. In my book, the best kind of work is when you’re telling an underdog’s story with interactive maps and stunning visuals.
GeoVelo Gives Back
We are all in this together: GeoVelo supports non-profits through donations of both time and money. In 2020, and since the start of Covid-19, GeoVelo has donated over $50,000 in a combination of funds and free geospatial services.

services

GeoVelo 24-7-365: In the consulting world, things happen, and clients often demand fixes or adjustments in a hurry. There is never a rate increase for “emergency” evening or weekend work. However, there is an inverse relationship between the number of times an associate invokes an emergency and the gravity that GeoVelo may ascribe to that emergency.

Ghost Text Survey123

Survey123
It’s like SurveyMonkey combined with GIS.

Use Survey123 to gather community feedback and increase community engagement.
Survey123 Forms (Portals) are simple yet powerful custom public portals for data gathering that make creating, sharing, and analyzing community survey responses fast and efficient. Survey123 results can be shared publicly or privately and on numerous platforms.
Platforms: All Survey123 products function on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones if used through the web. We can even create virtual test runs to see what your Survey123 product will look like on a particular manufacturer’s phone or tablet.
CAUTION: Apple products and Esri installed apps are notoriously glitchy when used together. However when used through a web browser, these products function well together.
Features: Every Survey123 project comes with (1) QR and short links, (2) a web map layer, (3) back-end analytics, (4) location data, and (5) user response data.
Exportability: The data collected by the Survey123 portal can be shared with anyone in some or all of the following formats: (1) a public web map, (2) a private web map, (3) a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx or .csv), and (4) an Esri Shapefile (.shp) or Geodatabase (.gdb) file.
Turnaround Time: Two (2) calendar weeks.

StoryMaps
Sync attractive photos with interactive web maps.

Use StoryMaps to report back to the community or to tell a story visually.
StoryMaps: Use geography as a means of organizing and presenting information. In a visually pleasing manner, StoryMaps tell the story of a place, event, issue, trend, or pattern in a geographic context. They combine interactive maps with other rich content—text, photos, illustrations, video, and audio—within intuitive user experiences.
CAUTION: People often assume that StoryMaps are HTML-based and thus can be manipulated like a web page. Please manage your client’s expectations early concerning this point. Also, there are some really lush high-end StoryMaps on the web. These StoryMaps have customized coding and are served from high-speed web servers. Unfortunately, at this time, I cannot provide a similar level of service. However, I know people we can bring in. But be prepared to spend handsomely if your client demands that level of product. We’re talking in the tens of thousands of dollars.
Platforms: All StoryMaps products function on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. But this is a medium designed for large screens.

ArcGIS Online
Think web maps with clickable links.

Use ArcGIS Online to develop geographic insights and discover community patterns.
Web Maps: ArcGIS Online (AGOL) web maps allow you to present, analyze, and share geographic information on numerous map platforms to all audiences. AGOL maps have numerous display formats and are easily modified to meet your needs.
Platforms: All AGOL products function on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. But this is a medium designed for large screens.

Community Dashboards
Think of the John Hopkins’ Covid-19 dashboard, but with happy news and community metrics.

Use Dashboards to help the client community track its progress and trends.
Dashboards: ArcGIS Dashboards enables users to convey information by presenting location-based analytics using intuitive and interactive data visualizations on a single screen. Every organization using the ArcGIS platform can take advantage of ArcGIS Dashboards to help make decisions, visualize trends, monitor status in real time, and inform their communities.
Platforms: All Dashboards products function on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
Features: Every Dashboards project comes with (1) QR and short links, (2) back-end analytics, and (3) View Dashboard web hits data.
Exportability: The raw data displayed by the Dashboards portal can be shared with anyone in some or all of the following formats: (1) a public web map, (2) a private web map, (3) a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx or .csv), and (4) an Esri Shapefile (.shp) or Geodatabase (.gdb) file.

3D Scene Rendering
See a virtual model from any angle.

Use 3D Scene Rendering to give decision-makers a view into the past, the inaccessible present, or a potential future.
Applications: Most 3D renderings are used to put decision-makers in a position to “walk around” a site or a project before they fund it, make a big decision, vote on the issue, or before they send a person to prison.
3D Products: GeoVelo uses Trimble SketchUp Pro and Esri’s ArcPro to render in 3D. Both of these platforms can produce animated video as well.
GeoVelo is Not an Architectural Firm: Sure, we draw stuff that looks like buildings, but we wouldn’t recommend building them and expecting them to be safe. States have various rules about who can draw what. We wouldn’t want to practice architecture without a license after all. Sure, that sounds silly. But please check with us before deciding if you need to hire an architect for a 3D Scene Rendering.
.

Trimble Sketchup
When you want to see a virtual model of a small area from any angle.

Use SketchUp when you need a dimensionally accurate 3D model to produce numerous images of a site or scene.
SketchUp: This program is amazing. If you can imagine it, it can be drawn in SketchUp.
Cost: GeoVelo charges an hour rate. Unfortunately, there is no way to accurately estimate the cost of a SketchUp project here. Often, we work backward from your budget. We’ve created models that cost clients anywhere from $1000 on the low end to $35,000 for a highly detailed crime scene model that was in production for several years. Models can be precisely geolocated, and shadows can be modeled to the exact time, date, and location of the item.
Exportability: SketchUp models are typically exported as Adobe PDF files or other graphics files. With the right viewer installed, you could use a laptop to give a live demo in front of a client. The models can also be included on a client website if they have the right webmaster.
Turnaround Time: Two (2) calendar weeks to one (1) year.

ArcGIS Pro
See a virtual model of a large area from any angle.

Use ArcPro when you need a dimensionally accurate 3D model of a large geographic area and when you need to produce numerous images of a site or scene.
ArcPro: This is just a regular GIS package with the ability to display items in 3D and 4D, which is when you add time as an element and want to see an animation of things changing over time and space.
Platforms: You are mostly going to use ArcPro output as graphics within your reports or for websites.

Turnaround Time: Two (2) calendar weeks to one (1) year.

Field Data Collection Services
When you have to go gather data.

Collect field data when you have no other option to develop the data set you need—or if you need to confirm the accuracy of a set of dimensions.
Field Data Collection: Our clients ask us to go to the field all the time to collect data or verify the accuracy of a map. We are very experienced in knowing when you will need a licensed surveyor instead of GeoVelo to collect location data. We can also construct a data schema for you before we head out to the field.
Requirements: When you are ready to discuss an field data collection project, let us know, and we’ll talk through the requirements and your options.
Exportability: The field data collected by GeoVelo can be shared with anyone in some or all of the following formats: (1) a public web map, (2) a private web map, (3) a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx or .csv), and (4) an Esri Shapefile (.shp) or Geodatabase (.gdb) file.
Turnaround Time: Two (2) calendar weeks.

Large Format Printing
When you want to show up with the pretty stuff!

Printing: We have two large-format HP Z5200 photo-grade color plotters and a wide variety of media. We’ve mailed dozens of items to clients over the years, and most have arrived undamaged. While we are competitively priced, unless there are special circumstances, you ought to use a local print or copy shop to save money.
Turn Around Time: Three (3) working days.

Fees

GeoVelo’s Rate: GeoVelo charges a flat hourly fee.
Cutting Costs or Saving Time: You can save costs by doing as much work as you can before handing a project off to GeoVelo. Conversely, you can save time by handing off the raw data and letting us figure it out. It doesn’t matter which approach you take. We are glad to have your business.
No Fixed Cost Bids Ever: GeoVelo never provides fixed-cost bids for services. This geospatial stuff is too complex, and we would be forced to overprice our work if we provided fixed bids. It just costs what it costs.
Accurate Information: GeoVelo tracks its time by project, and we track our time to the minute. You can request a project account balance and an estimate of the cost remaining on work to be done at any time.
Estimates: GeoVelo charges for our time in preparing written estimates.
Esri Credits: Esri charges GeoVelo in the form of “credits” to host and enable some cloud-based GIS services. Calculating which project incurs a particular amount of credit usage is a venture into the byzantine and it is very annoying. As such, GeoVelo absorbs most web-GIS project credit costs. However, a potential project may contain significantly more data than the norm and use a large amount of storage. Clients will be advised ahead of the project if they will need to reimburse GeoVelo for its purchase of Esri credits to support the project.
Billing Surprises: GeoVelo often bills less than the initial estimate once the job is done. This will surprise you the first few times it happens.
Invoicing: GeoVelo invoices shortly after the first of the month. GeoVelo does not work on contingency, nor does it agree to hold invoicing until after your client has paid you.
