Dr. Ambrose, Rocky Miller, and Deloris Wood presented a program entitled “How Primary Sources or First-Hand Accounts and GIS Can be Used to Establish and Map a Trail: A Case Study of the Northern Route of the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail” to the Partnership for the National Trails.  “Through this panel presentation you will learn how primary sources such as diaries, invoices, and land patents can be used to establish and then map a route for an historic trail.  And in tis example, GIS was used in reverse – starting with old state road surveys of high quality which made it possible to geo-reference the trail from those surveys.” – BA
